Medical Image Subsystem

The National Medical Image Archiving and Sharing Subsystem (MedVAIS) is part of the national eHealth system, which provides secure, fast and centralised access to a patient’s medical images and related data for all healthcare institutions and health professionals.

Why is this important for the patient?

• Convenient collaboration with health professionals: doctors can see the patient’s full medical imaging history. Reduces the need to transfer test results on media or in paper formats.
• Reduced radiation exposure: centralised access reduces the number of repeat tests when previous results are already available.
• Teleradiology offers the possibility for the institution that created a medical image to transfer it electronically for interpretation by specialists in another institution. The patient has faster access to the image report when the institution that created the medical image cannot produce an image report.
• Secure access to testing result reports – by logging in to the eHealth portal, patients can view their test result reports.
